IGMA PROJECT WORKSHOP: Developing New Integration Processes Through Guidance

The work of the employment counsellor -mentor, guider, etc.- is always complex in terms of his/her work is developed in a scenario in which different forces or trends converge:

  • The legal and administrative framework of the process: regulations and legal implicit restrictions meaning that the destination is the inclusion in the labour market or training route, both regulated by the state.
  • Professional development of the profession itself: the methodologies and processes applicable to own itinerary differ in formulas and results.
  • The human factor considering that what it is all about is to accompany, guide, advise people in an always personal way and different for each, with the ultimate goal of getting a job, which carries an emotional and vital charge and also a way to stay and participate in society.

On the first point, professional direct intervention is unusual given the breadth of the framework. But as for the next two-capacity action or omission may be decisive in the effectiveness of the orientation process.

With this background, we celebrated in early October a workshop in Santander in which the guidance methodology and performance management proposed in the European project IGMA was reported. The meeting was held at the Training and Employment Centre of Santander City Council. IGMA seeks to develop a methodology for the effective integration of immigrants in training as a gateway to the labour market through case management and the realization of an itinerary tailored to their specific needs.

EM-KIT Project: Migration, Women, Social Participation and Employment

emkit logoNEWEM-kit project has developed a digital tool for counsellors and mentors working with migrant women in employment services, Social Welfare Offices, NGOs. This tool will support them to improve accessibility to pre vocational/professional education for immigrant women, especially those with low educational/working experience, in order to help them to enter labour market and to become more active members of society.

The figures on emigration in Europe reveal a situation that places immigrant women in a disadvantage position: women entering Europe are half of all immigrants but only 8% do so to study and 6% to work. More than half do so according to their families (U.S.: 2009). Clearly this is a very heterogeneous group of different cultural backgrounds, educational levels or family situations but they all have in common, like any other group, the need to integrate into the host country.

Labor problems encountered by these women vary according to whether their level of education and professional qualification is high or low:

  • those with high qualifications enter the labour market through job, in many cases, for those who are overqualified,
  • women with a low educational level facing unemployment, lack of job and educational opportunities.

The latter group also has a precarious employment rate higher than the rest, with low wages and worse social / labour conditions.

CreBUS: Final Conference in Bucarest

The European project CReBUS (creating business) is aCrebusBucarest1bout to finish and for this reason its final conference has been held. The event took place in the University of Bucharest (Romania) on the 8th and 9th October 2012.

They were two intense days of conference that counted with the participation of more than 40 people coming from CReBUS partner organizations as well as external experts invited coming from different European countries, namely: Italy, Spain, Romania Holland, Latvia, Estonia, Portugal, Austria, Cyprus and Slovakia . It is worth to mention the attendance of the Vice-Rector of the University of Bucharest as well as other important representatives from other universities as Latvia University, West University of Timisoara (Romania) and Nitra (Slovakia).

Second CReBUS Workshop

CrebusSantander1The second workshop of CReBUS project was implemented in Santander on the 5th of October 2012. This initiative was presented to a group of 25 females who are also taking part in a training course related to Innovative Innovation Management in the enterprise

CReBUS (creating business) is a European project that started in November 2010. It is promoted by the University of Bucharest and coordinated by IREA (Romanian Institute for Adult Education). In addition, there are some other organizations that participate in it, namely: University of Latvia, the Italian organization CSCS, Bit – media from Austria and the Slovak University of Agriculture together with DOCUMENTA in Spain.

Along these two years of project life, it has been created a formative system through the use of web 2.0 resources in order to promote the development of entrepreneurship competences among students and young graduates. This training system has followed the methodology called eMentorship, consisting of a personal counseling to transfer best practices and experiences to the entrepreneurs.
