DOCUMENTA shared with teachers and staff of Decroly Santander a dissemination session of SEE-ME project for Early Warning detection of risk for Early School Leaving (ESL). Teachers have been informed on the foundations of the SEE-ME project and the proposed framework for an effective approach to this issue from the school.

Main topics of discussion were the real impact of certain factors (environmental and demographic, key competences and school adaptability, sense of belonging or the learning environment oriented to work life, among others) and the different perceptions of school drop-out from the point of view of students, parents and teachers.

The main conclusions of the focus group showed that there may be some difficulties in implementing the model in a practical way for some VET organisations, despite the fact that all participants agreed on the factors presented and the need of preventing early school leaving.  

Many schools do not have an action plan or protocol to face early school leaving specifically, neither from guidance department nor management area. Teachers have to volunteer to fill this gap. As a consequence, there is an ineffective management of both academic records and knowledge of the students’ needs. The SEE-ME project provides the school with the appropriate tools to organize preventive and coordinated action within the school community.

The awareness of all the stakeholders of the school community and the involvement of the management staff of VET centres are critical in order for the model to succeed.
